Tonight’s feature is THE KILLERS based on a story by Ernest Hemingway. Directed by Robert Siodmak and starring Burt Lancaster, Ava Gardner, Edmond O’Brien, Albert Dekker and Sam Levene, THE KILLERS is a terrific film.   Enjoy the movie!

TCM says:

Two hitmen, Al and Max, drive into Brentwood, New Jersey, in search of Pete “Swede” Lund, and stake out a diner he frequents, questioning, among others, customer Nick Adams about Swede’s whereabouts. After the men leave, Nick races to Swede’s boardinghouse room to warn him and is stunned when Swede seems resigned to his fate. Shortly after Nick’s departure, Al and Max find Swede waiting in his room and shoot him to death. When it is discovered Swede had a small life insurance policy with Atlantic Casual, insurance investigator James Riordan begins investigating his murder.

Film Noir Matinee: Christmas Holiday [1944]

Not everyone celebrates the holidays with fruitcake and a cup of egg nog. Here at Deranged L.A. Crimes we prefer to celebrate with noir; which is why we’ve opened the Deranged L.A. Crimes theater for a special screening.

Grab a bucket of popcorn, some Milk Duds and a Coke and find a seat. Our feature is CHRISTMAS HOLIDAY directed by Robert Siodmak and starring Deanna Durbin, Gene Kelly and Richard Whorf.

TCM says:

After receiving his commission on Christmas Eve, Lt. Charles Mason learns that Mona, his longtime girl friend, has married another man. When his plane from North Carolina to San Francisco is forced by bad weather to land in New Orleans, the heartbroken Charles meets alcoholic reporter Simon Fenimore, who takes him to a brothel run by Valerie De Merode. There Charles is introduced to hostess/singer Jackie Lamont, and agrees to take her to a midnight mass. After the church services, the two go to a diner, where Jackie tells Charles that her real name is Abigail and that she is the wife of convicted murderer Robert Manette. At the diner, and the next morning in his hotel room, Abigail tells Charles the story of her relationship with Robert…

Tonight’s feature is THE FILE ON THELMA JORDON, directed by Robert Siodmak and starring Barbara Stanwyck, Wendell Corey, and Paul Kelly (who, in real life, served time in prison).

Turner Classic Movies says:

Assistant district attorney Cleve Marshall goes on a drunken binge and misses celebrating his anniversary with his wife Pamela. Left alone in chief investigator Miles Scott’s office, Cleve drunkenly pursues Thelma Jordon, an alluring and confident woman, who is reporting an attempted burglary at her elderly aunt Vera’s house. Thelma agrees to join Cleve for a drink after he offers to fix a parking ticket for her. He stays with her until late that night, when she throws him out of her car for proclaiming his love.

It’s a complicated tale of theft and murder!
